Herman Gesellius 1874–1916
|Herman Gesellius initially planned a career in engineering. Before
starting his studies in architecture in 1893, he had already been a
trainee at the factories of the Nobel family in Petersburg and studied
mechanical engineering for a year at the Polytechnical Institute.|
The Wuorio house on Unioninkatu Street in Helsinki is the most famous building by Gesellius. As an interior designer he is remembered for his design for the Suur-Merijoki Manor and Haus Remer. Gesellius’ production remained quite limited as he fell seriously ill in 1912 and died in 1916.
