Fishhook shank
This fish-shaped fishhook shank was found on the top of a sandy ridge in Moninmäki, Leppävirta, in 1966. Red ochre graves have been found nearby.
Made of schist, the object is 6.1 cm long, 1.9 cm wide and 0.5 cm thick. The fishhook shank has been dated to the Neolithic Stone Age circa 4000–2000 BCE.
The fish-shaped fishhook shank is on display in the National Museum’s Prehistory exhibition.
