God the Father

God the Father is sitting looking straight ahead, holding a small crucifix in front of him. Christ is hanging on the cross, his head leaning to the right and his right hand lifted diagonally. Made in Finland around the year 1500, the sculpture is from Somero Church.

H1180:5

Isä jumala
The sculpture is possibly made of birch, and the cross of pine. The sculpture is carved from a single tree, except for the hands and the part behind the head on the left. Made of two pieces, the cross is attached to the pedestal with a pin at the bottom. Christ’s body and hands are carved from different pieces of wood. There is a small hole on the top of God’s head and two triangular holes under the pedestal.
