Cabin interior in Säkylä

The signature A. Liljelund is written in block letters at the bottom of the work. However, the work looks different to the two other interior works by Liljelund. The previous works were painted very realistically. In them, efforts have been successfully made to capture the atmosphere of the rooms. The objects in this painting are painted in different proportions and from different perspectives to each other. Of course, the popular theme of the Säkylä room may have inspired various imaginative interpretations, but one is forced to wonder whether this is Liljelund’s work at all. The painting looks very modern for one painted in the 1870s. It was donated to the collections in 1941. Oil painting on canvas. Size: 48.7 x 28 cm.
