Sailor’s chest
A wooden sailor’s chest. A rectangular chest with flat sides, each side made of a single board. The lid boards are connected by wooden pins. The lid is lifted off when opening the chest. There are no metal parts left in the chest (there are marks left by iron bands on the lid and on the long sides of the chest). One of the long sides of the chest has a rectangular hole where a lock used to be. Inside the chest, at the top of one end, there is a compartment without a lid. The compartment probably used to have a lid; the recesses in its corners may have been used for fastening the lid.
