Matias Kalm

Matias Kalm (1793–1833), by Erik Wilhelm le Moine, 1823

Matias Kalm, from Jomala, Åland, studied medicine at the Imperial Academy of Turku. He became Docent of surgery at the Imperial Academy of Turku in 1818, Secretary of the Collegium medicum in 1822, Assistant in medicine and demonstrator of botany at the Imperial Academy of Turku (Alexander University) in 1822, Assistant in surgery and obstetrics in 1828 and Professor of theoretical and practical medicine in 1831. Kalm died in Helsinki on 2 March 1833.
