CLOSED: The Renaissance. Now
– from Raffaello to Titian

This will be the first time that Raffaello’s paintings have been exhibited in Finland. The exhibition at the National Museum of Finland, “The Renaissance. Now – from Raffaello to Titian”, presents approximately 50 large oil paintings by Italian Renaissance artists who worked in Lombardy, Venice and Milan between 1500 and 1600..

Along with Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, Raffaello and Titian are some of the biggest names in Italian Renaissance art. The exhibition also marks the first time that works by other important artists, including Lorenzo Lotto, Tintoretto, Girolamo Romanino and Giovanni Battista Moroni, have been exhibited in Finland.  The exhibition will include works by over 20 different artists.

The Renaissance brought to art a more realistic study of human anatomy and space and new kinds of subjects. In addition to religious themes, painters now depicted more secular subjects, such as scenes from Antiquity, landscapes and portraits.

The paintings in the exhibition are primarily on loan from Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia, one of the most important museums in the Lombardy region in Italy.

The exhibition also features an exhibition catalogue in Finnish and additional programming.

The exhibition curator is Elena Lucchesi Ragni and the exhibition organiser is Davide Sandrini/StArt.
