CLOSED: Magical World of Couture Fashion

Reality and virtual reality collide in the beauty of couture fashion during the Independence Day celebration season.

Millions of people watch the Independence Day Reception every year from their living rooms to enjoy the glamour of couture fashion seen in the Presidential Palace. The reception is a tradition that dates back to the year 1919 when the first afternoon reception was held. On 6 December 1922 President K.J. Ståhlberg and Mrs Ester Ståhlberg hosted the first evening reception. Since those days Finland has celebrated its independency almost every year.

Next to the Museum Shop in the National Museum of Finland you'll get a chance to experience fashion in multiple realities: stunning couture gowns on display and illustrations of these in virtual reality.

The couture evening gowns some of which have been seen at previous years’ Independence Day Reception, are designed by fashion designer Kisu Korsi, and fashion illustrations of these in virtual reality are created by fashion illustrator Olesja Hännikäinen. The VR experience is powered by Accenture Finland.

You can experince the gowns from 4th to 15th of December during the museum opening hours. Free entrance.

Welcome to meet the artists on Wed 4.12. at 17-19.30 (music by DJ Simo J Högblom).
