Guided tours

The guided tours explore life in the 19th century Finnish countryside and traditional Finnish architecture. We organize private booked tours between May 15th and September 15th. Open guided tours included in the entrance ticket daily from June 15th to August 31st and on weekends until September 15th.

Open guided tours

Open tours are provided daily from June 15th to August 31st 2024. In September we provide open guided tours on weekends until September 15th.

The guided tours are included in the entrance fee. You do not need to pre-book a place for the tour. The tours depart from the ticket kiosk of the museum. The duration of the tours is around 45–60 min.

Groups can book a private tour, as we do not accept groups on public tours.


June 15th to August 31st 2024

  • In German at 12 noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
  • In Finnish at 1 pm daily
  • In English at 3 pm daily
  • In Swedish on Sundays at 1 pm on the following days: 23.6., 21.7. and 25.8.

September 1st to September 15th 2024

  • In German at 12 noon on on Sundays
  • In Finnish at 1 pm on Saturdays and Sundays

Children's own guided tours June 4th to September 14th (in Finnish)

During the children's tour, the museum's guide will take you to see in what kinds of homes people used to live in Finland. Participation with an adult.

June-July (4.6.- 30.7.)
Tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 12 noon.

August- September (3.8.-14.9.)
Tours on Saturdays at 12 noon.

Seurasaari tour, 45–60 min
The Seurasaari tour is a basic tour in the atmospheric milieu of the Open-Air Museum. The tour provides an introduction to the history of the museum and 19th century rural life in Finland. The tour includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings. According to your wishes, the private tour can focus on Finnish traditional architecture; crafts; farm animals; food management; the history of the landless, common people or gentry; or regional cultural differences.

Seurasaari Open-Air Museum for schools and day-care centres, 45–60 min
The Seurasaari tour for schoolchildren includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings and provides a deeper look into a theme picked by the teacher. Available themes: 1) Living in the countryside 2) Animals and people 2) Crafts 3) Peasants, crofters, lords of the manor and the landless. The tour is appropriate for school groups from early, basic, and upper secondary education. The level of content and narrative is adjusted to the target group.


Private guided tour prices

  • Seurasaari introduction, 15–20 min €40 per group + entrance fee per person
  • Hour-long guided tour €70 per group + entrance fee per person
  • Guided tour for schoolchildren €40 per group, includes entrance fees
  • Guided tours outside museum opening hours: €170 + entrance fee per person

You can book a guided tour in Finnish, Swedish, English or German. You may choose only one language per guide. Group size max. 20–25 people.

School and Student Groups

For school and student groups who are studying full-time, a self-guided visit to the museum is free of charge. However, it is advisable to notify the museum office in advance of the group's estimated size, visit date, and expected arrival time. You can call the office at tel. +358295336912 (April 1 - October 30) or email seurasaari@kansallismuseo.fi. The museum is open from May 15 to September 15, from 11 AM to 5 PM. Upon arrival on the island, the group can obtain an entrance ticket from the ticket kiosk or the museum shop located in the Iisalmi parsonage, which grants access to the museum buildings. The teacher is responsible for the group throughout the visit, and it is recommended that the group stays together with the teacher.
