Guided tours
The guided tours explore life in the 19th century Finnish countryside and traditional Finnish architecture. We organize private booked tours between May 15th and September 15th. Public guided tours included in the entrance ticket are organized daily from June 15th to August 31st and on weekends until September 15th.
Public guided tours
Public tours are provided daily from June 15th to August 31st 2026. In September we provide public guided tours on weekends until September 15th.
The guided tours are included in the entrance fee. You do not need to pre-book a place for the tour. The tours depart in front of the Iisalmi Parsonage, a building where you can also find the museum shop. The duration of the tours is around 45–60 min.
Groups can book a private tour, as we do not accept groups on public tours.

Seurasaari tour, 45–60 min
The Seurasaari tour is a basic tour in the atmospheric milieu of the Open-Air Museum. The tour provides an introduction to the history of the museum and 19th century rural life in Finland. The tour includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings. According to your wishes, the private tour can focus on Finnish traditional architecture; crafts; farm animals; food management; the history of the landless, common people or gentry; or regional cultural differences. Available until June 13.
From the Parsonage to the Summer Cottage, 45–60 min, available from June 13
From the Parsonage to the Summer Cottage is the open-air museum’s basic guided tour, during which you’ll explore a few different museum buildings. Starting from the Iisalmi Parsonage, the tour covers both traditional rural life and the history of summer cottaging in Finland. The tour ends at Seurasaari’s newest museum building, the Summer Cottage. Available from June 13.
Introduction to Seurasaari, 15 min
Are you planning on coming to spend time at Seurasaari Open-Air Museum? The Get to know Seurasaari Open-Air Museum introduction offers a quick overview of Seurasaari Open-Air Museum and its milieu. The introduction works as words of welcome before you explore the museum independently. Also appropriate for large groups!
Seurasaari Open-Air Museum in easy Finnish, 45–60 min
Seurasaari is an outdoor recreation area where old buildings have been brought together from different locations around Finland. The tour includes visits to 2–3 buildings and provides an introduction to rural life in Finland over 100 years ago.
Seurasaari Open-Air Museum for schools and day-care centres, 45–60 min
The Seurasaari tour for schoolchildren includes visits to 2–3 museum buildings and provides a deeper look into a theme picked by the teacher. Available themes: 1) Living in the countryside 2) Animals and people 2) Crafts 3) Peasants, crofters, lords of the manor and the landless. The tour is appropriate for school groups from early, basic, and upper secondary education. The level of content and narrative is adjusted to the target group.

You can book a guided tour in Finnish, Swedish or English as well as in easy Finnish. You may choose only one language per guide. Group size max. 20–25 people.
School and Student Groups
For school and student groups who are studying full-time, a self-guided visit to the museum is free of charge. Please notify the museum office in advance of the group's estimated size, visit date, and expected arrival time. You can call the office at tel. +358295336912 (April 1 - October 30) or email seurasaari@kansallismuseo.fi.
The museum is open from May 15 to September 15, from 11 AM to 5 PM. Upon arrival on the island, the group can obtain an entrance ticket from the ticket kiosk or the museum shop located in the Iisalmi parsonage, which grants access to the museum buildings. The teacher is responsible for the group throughout the visit, and it is recommended that the group stays together with the teacher.
