The New National

During the year 2019, an architecture competition was organised for the design of an annex next to the historical National Museum building in Helsinki. Winner of the competition was announced in December 2019, JKMM Architects’ proposal “Atlas”. If the project advances according to plan, the annex will be completed around 2025. The goal is to create a unique overall experience by combining the current historical National Museum building, the annex and the open courtyard available for urban events and communities throughout the year.

Expanding the museum will enable the production of large, international exhibitions in the National Museum of Finland. In addition to exhibitions, the adaptable facilities support the organisation of varied cultural, artistic and recreational events and conferences.
