Frequently asked questions

Why can one visit the inside of the castle only with a guide?

The medieval structures in the castle are preserved quite well, for example the spiral staircases. It's quite demanding to move about inside the castle. There is also the possibility of getting lost. The entrance fee always includes a guided tour with a guide, who knows the easiest and most comfortable routes.

What is the maximum amount of visitors in a group?

There is no maximum amount. However, large groups (exceeding 80 visitors) are usually divided into two smaller groups.

Why isn't there any furniture or artifacts in the rooms?

The rooms are empty because none of the original artifacts have survived. Reasons for this are, for example, the two fires in the castle in the late 1860's.

Is Olavinlinna open during the Ballet  and Opera Festival?

Yes, guided tours are held every day.

Is it possible to organize events in the winter as well - isn't it cold inside?

There is electricity and heating in the halls that can be rented, so all kinds of events can be held in the winter as well.
